Guests are advised to bring food supplies from the mainland as there may be seasonal restrictions and limited opening hours especially in winter.  

Many cafes will offer takeaway options.  

The American River Service Centre is your one stop shop open 6 days on Buik Drive for grocery items, bread, milk, bottle shop, coffee, hot pies, post office.

Plenty of Eating out  options near by in American River. Many within walking distance.

Tuesday Night - The Community Shed - Schnitzel night 6-7

Thursday night - Tru Thai  with live music from 5pm look for turn off to American River   

Friday night - The Community Shed big local night from 5.30pm - 8pm (signposted adjacent Caravan Park)

Saturday Night - The Community Shed - open for take-aways and dine-in - burgers, pizza etc. from 6-7

The Oyster Shop Cafe -   showcasing Kangaroo Island aquaculture & sustainable seafood - Open  lunch time 11am till 3pm.  Not open Sunday. Adjacent the wharf and Oyster sheds.  Oyster tours available ph 08 8553 7122.

The Deck Cafe on the Wharf open 9am till 3pm 6 days and Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights. Closed Monday. Enjoy the sunny ocean courtyard and birdlife. Hosts Dave & Bec.

Kangaroo Island bar and lounge and Reflections Restaurant 73 Scenic Drive just down from Sunrise on Falie open lunch, dinner and breakfast. No need to drive, just walk under the stars and watch the wallabies.
