I stayed at Kevin's air bnb with my husband and toddler in the October school holidays for a little get away.  The apartment was perfect for us, lots of birds to watch, close to walking trails and a base for us to do some day trips exploring the rest of K.I.  The house is very accessible and doesn't have too much clutter making it easier to ensure our little boy didn't get into things he shouldn't.  The kitchen was set up withe everything we needed to prepare and cook meals (probably the best range of cookware we've had in an airbnb).  We also ate out at the Glossy Black restaurant which was walking distance from the house.  Thanks for a lovely stay.  5 out of 5.

Kevin and Yvonne were fabulous hosts! Very friendly and went to lengths to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible. They had great local knowledge of the island and gave us great tips on where to eat and visit. For those looking for a place of tranquility and relaxation then look no further. American river is central to all things on the Island without being “off grid”, however, Kevin has done an amazing job of building an environmentally conscious accommodation which can technically support its own energy and water needs. Beautiful place where we stayed for 4 nights.  Here it feels like home, very cozy and calm, nice area, great views from house.  Kevin was so kind to use helping with all questions and sharing some tips for our stay at the the island. Definitely one of the best places I have ever stayed!

5 stars Friendly hosts and delightful apartment.

From the time of our first communication with Kevin we were impressed with his friendly nature, and helpful travel tips and information for planning our stay.  

On arrival we were so delighted to find the spacious Penthouse apartment as advertised, spotlessly clean and delightfully decorated with a lovely view over the trees and water. I really enjoyed Yvonne's photography of the island, a great feature.

We were on the island for a week, so all the extras and 'little things' you'll find in the apartment were greatly appreciated.  The Kitchen contains everything you might need if you're eating in.  It was delightful to sit and watch the endangered black cockatoos and other birdlife.

Local walking tracks were so enjoyable and there was a selection of dining options in the town.  We particularly enjoyed a Friday night meal at the Community Shed, with plenty of friendly locals.  Sunrise on Falie is a great spot to base yourself if you can give yourself plenty of time to enjoy a moment to relax and enjoy the apartment too.

Stunning location.  Loved every minute while here.  So warm a welcome by the owner (Yvonne) definitely will be back soon.  Thank you so much for this amazing place (penthouse).  I am so lucky to have enjoyed this place, especially the surroundings.  Love the bird sounds and beautiful wild flowers.

(Apartment 3)  Excellent.  Wonderful apartment with stunning view. Very comfortable and clean.  Surrounded by lots of wildlife including the black glossy cockatoo. The hots were lovely with great communication.

We had a lovely stay at Sunrise on Falie.  American River was a fantastic location to base ourselves - convenient location, quiet and beautiful.  The apartment was modern and comfortable with a beautiful view.  Kevin and Yvonne were great hosts and welcomed us and our dog Sasha.  They were helpful and provided local tips on what to do in KI. especially activities that were dog friendly.  One thing to note American River (and many places in KI) had limited dinner options, however we were able to make some delicious meals in the apartment.  Overall a great stay!  Thank you for having us!

Just a short note to say how much our family enjoyed staying with you. I’m sure you appreciate that travelling with pets makes holidays a lot less stressful than when they are in kennels (you can’t really enjoy yourself for worrying that they are stressed or getting the best care). So to be able to bring our pups made life in KI so much more pleasurable than many holidays overseas etc. Archie and Lacie particularly loved their morning run on the oval which set them up perfectly for travelling around by car. They also slept all the way back on the ferry! I think KI tuckered them out.

Kevin's apartment is really comfortable, clean and beautifully open.  It's in such a lovely peaceful location but still very close to the water and local stores (including The Deck Cafe and Oyster Farm shop).  

We loved our stay, American River is beautiful and so close to many attractions.  The coffee machine was a wonderful touch! As coffee lovers seeing this on arrival made us smile.  Kitchen has all one needs and the bed is super comfortable.  

Seeing the sunrise in the morning from the main bedroom window as divine.  Highly recommend this lovely home.  It has all one needs and that special touch.

My family of 4 have just spent a week staying at this lovely accommodation and we were especially grateful that we could bring the favourite member of our family, our dog!

We were blessed to have an almost perfect week of Winter weather with the only rain being when we were snuggled up in our comfy beds. The apartment had everything we needed, a kitchen to cook our meals, a lounge area with plenty of room for all of us, an excellent heater to keep us warm and very comfy beds. Our hosts, Kevin and Yvonne were there to make sure we had everything we needed and advise us on what to do. Kevin lent us some fishing rods and when we couldn’t catch our own dinner he very kindly ensured that we had our feed of fish from his own stocks in his freezer.

Some of the favourite things from our trip were:

Saturday we caught the ferry over and upon landing at Penneshaw we made our way to Dudley winery for lunch which was delicious and has a stunning view and a little golf range to hit a few balls into the valley.
Sunday we explored around American River and made our first walk along the Cannery trail. This is a reasonably easy walk along a trail that follows the coastline to the spot that a fish cannery used to reside. This 90 min round trip can also be done along the shore when the tide is out. My husband and doggo ended up doing this walk 8 times during our stay!
On Monday we took a trip along the South Coast of the island and my husband found his new passion...tobogganing on sand dunes! He quickly became an expert tobboganist on ‘Little Sahara’ while there was mixed results from the rest of us 😁. We also got some survivor-like bandanas which made me very happy. Then we visited Seal Bay and got up close to these funny animals before making a quick stop at Vivonne Bay which is an absolutely stunning beach. We also had THE BEST hot chips and gravy from the Vivonne Bay general store.
On Wednesday we were lucky to see a Winter sunrise from our cosy apartment in American River. We then drove to the other end of the island for a first look at the Flinders Chase National Park. It suffered badly in the January bushfires and it’s awful to think of all the animals that were lost but there is some amazing re-growth in some areas. I especially loved the trees that looked like they had a furry coat of leaves. The highlight of our whole trip was Admiral Arch where there is a gorgeous and playful colony of seals that you can almost touch.
Thursday we popped over to Kingscote and had an excellent Schnitzel at the Ozone hotel and then had another attempt to catch our dinner on the jetty. While a fellow fisherman bagged out his catch we were only able to bring up a little fish that needed to be returned to the ocean. We were surprised to see some more seals on some decking next to the jetty.
We spent a lazy day on Friday enjoying the lovely scenery from the apartment and a walk down to the Deck Café for lunch. On our way back to the ferry on Saturday we took the 510 steps up to Prospect Hill for a great view of our surroundings followed by a quick wine taste at a beautifully designed winery, False Cape Winery.

We had a great week on KI with a mixture of exploration and rest and have loved our little home in American River. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay or more considerate hosts. Thank You!

'Wonderful reception and great location a few minutes walk from the Mercure Hotel Restaurant. Amazingly spotless and we all had clean body and face towels. We were very grateful for the local tips of where to eat and what to do. Check in/out was very swift and easy. On-site parking was also very good. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely vibe, well equipped. Gorgeous photos all around, from one of the owners.  Make sure you stay several days on KI, we were there for five full days and could have stayed longer.  American River itself is just gorgeous.

This apartment is so great and I strongly suggest at least 3 nights stay here.  I deeply regret to plan a short trip here and I have not enough time to enjoy it.  I should find another time to stay here once again and shall not do anything but just lying on Kevin's lovely armchair.

If I were to head back to KI for another trip I would go back to the same place I stayed in because;

1. Stylish, clean and comfortable and well decorated

2. Has all the necessary kitchenware,toilet necessities and also electric blankets

3. Friendly host who gave us an overview of the house and was willing to provide us with tips to get around the island.

4. Provided very helpful information for us which made us better prepared for the trip

5. The suggested itinerary which was helpful for us to work out what paces to go beyod the tourist's sites.

6. Privacy was well respected

7. Serene environment with beautiful birds visiting the porch of the house occasionally.

Personally I love art and admire the work of the photographer.  I felt more serene (which it already is) with the beautiful photography of the different areas of KI.  Thank you for making the trip a pleasant one for us!
