The farm, run by Maria and Tony, is about 1 Hectare in size, growing 10 lavender varieties including : Grosso; Miss Donnington; Seal; Munstead; Super; Impress Purple; Angustifolia; and Intermedia.
Learn about lavender production, see it in its various stages throughout the season, and even taste some goodies made with lavender.
Emu Bay Lavender currently harvests about 8,000 bunches per year, producing about 150kg of dried, stripped flowers, with the main season being between September and May.
Have a light meal in their cafe and browse their shop.
It takes about 45 minutes to drive from Sunrise on Falie at American River, across towards Kingscote, and up the Emu Bay Road to the farm.
Bay of Shoals Wines
About 40 minutes drive from Sunrise on Falie at American River, you'll find Bay of Shoals Wines overlooking the Bay of Shoals and Reeves Point, 5 minutes north of Kingscote.
The winery's cellar door is open daily.
Island Beehive - Kingscote
Island Beehive is one of the first, and now amongst the biggest organic honey producers in Australia, with owner Peter Davis a leading voice in the honey production industry in Australia. He is also passionate about protecting and promoting the Ligurian Bee heritage.
The company extracts around 100 tonnes of honey a year, with Island Beehive's extraction plant built to Australian Quarantine Inspection Service standards for export.
Guided factory tours available, usually each half hour between 10am and 3.30pm (depending on staff availability).
Island Beehive also has an Information Centre, Cafe and Shop open each day. Visitors are welcome to drop in anytime for free. Honey tastings available - also for free!
Did you know that bees are truly amazing creatures?
They have four wings that they stroke at 11,500 times per minute in flight. They have five eyes. A hive of bees needs to fly approximately 90,000kms to produce half a kilogram of honey and 30 grams of honey would be sufficient fuel for a bee to circumnavigate the earth!

The Eucalyptus Oil industry began on Kangaroo Island in the late 1800s.
In 1991 the Turner Family revived the industry, opening a farm gate outlet and tourist attraction for the passing public and visitors to Kangaroo Island.
Today, it is an amazing place to explore if you've an hour or so to spare.
Emu Ridge is a great way to learn about Kangaroo Island's pure Eucalyptus industry. There are some amazing historical artifacts to explore, a museum of sorts, artworks around the walls from talented K.I. artists, KI Cider tastings and sales (yummy), and a huge array of other local KI products and souvenirs.
Seeing how Eucalyptus Oil is extracted and bottled today, compared to the late 1800s is well worth a look. You'll get a surpise how many ways Eucalyptus Oil is used in every day life.

KIS make all of their products in small batches on site. Often the distillery is smelling of roasting botanicals, citrus peel or wild fennel. They then hand bottle, cap and label products ready for sale at Cellar Door.
KIS' Distillery and Cellar Door just 10 minutes from Kangaroo Island's capital, Kingscote.
Sample their amazing flavours, stay for a coffee, or try an Affogato (liqueur over a scoop of ice cream). It's lovely sitting in the garden outside.
Dudley Wines
About 30 minutes from Sunrise on Falie, Dudley Wines is located just around the corner from Penneshaw, high atop the cliffs of Cuttlefish Bay, overlooking Backstairs Passage and the South Australian mainland.
Enjoy a meal, some live entertainment and of course taste their lovely hand crafted wines as you sit on the deck or lawns admiring the view.
The Howard Family grow the grapes, make the wine, manage the cellar door and market the wine.
Clifford's Honey Farm
Cliffords Honey Farm aims to provide visitors with quality honey, select regional produce and to provide information on the unique Ligurian bee found only on Kangaroo Island.

Plus, the shop offers tastings of the many flavours of honey, obtained at different times of the year from different flowering flora across Kangaroo Island. Try their honey icecream! Yum.
