They can't guarantee seeing penguins, but can guarantee a great night walk, with lots of information about Kangaroo Island's local colony of penguins.
Penguin-friendly red light torches are provided on this walking tour, as they do not disrupt an animal's night vision or your own. This way you can watch the penguins, wallabies, possums and other animals behave naturally. Nocturnal animals and other animals have very strong senses compared to us, so creating as little stress to them is important. Groups move quitely, slowly and are encouraged not to make sudden movements.
Please note: the Penneshaw Penguin Centre is generally not open during the day as it used for the night walking tours.

Rebuild the Independence
Rebuild Independence Group (RIG) is a community-based, non-profit organisation with the mission of rebuilding a replica of the 45ft Schooner Independence, the first vessel built in 1803 in South Australia, by Captain Isaac Pendleton and his crew of the American Brig “Union”, from Stonington, USA.
The original Independence was presumed lost with all hands, south of New Zealand a few years later.
The boat will be a lasting legacy to the pioneering spirit of those early sailors that put the "American" in American River.
