American River Township Kangaroo Island

KI's best kept secret - American River  - a hidden gem

The name is slightly misleading! American River is both the expanse of water and the township.

The town of American River, where Sunrise on Falie is located, is situated about half way between Penneshaw (where the Sealink Ferry docks) and Kingscote (Kangaroo Island's capital town) - each about 25 minutes drive either side of American River.

The River itself is popular for recreational fishing and sailing.

Plus there are Oyster Farms producing beautiful fresh oysters due to the strong ocean tidal flows and fresh, clean water.

Docks, Moorings and a Boat Ramp make it easy for all manner of boats to launch or visit American River township.

The town is serviced by a General Post Office / General Store - American River Service Centre a one stop shop open 9-5 weekdays, 9-1 Saturdays, Community Shed and Oval, Community BBQ's, Recreational Tennis & Basketball Courts + much more.

A quiet town, American River is the perfect place to unwind. Go for a walk around the lagoon.

Visit the local Oyster farm and buy some fresh Oysters.

And if you like fishing, American River is renowned for its protected waters, abundant with Whiting and other species of fish and shell fish.

Locals include the Kangaroo Island kangaroo, Tammar Wallaby, Pygmy Possum, Brushtail Possum, Echidna, Pacific Barn Owl, Southern Boobook Owl and the endangered Glossy black Cockatoo.

Sunrise On Falie is central with dining options within walking distance.
